The sixth Annual Africa Higher Education Week and RUFORUM biennial conference was for the first time held in Kenya. The conference was held from the 22nd to 26 Oct 2018 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC)

The theme for the conference was Aligning African Universities to accelerate attainment of Africa’s Agenda 2063

The Conference included a set of pre-conference events plenary sessions, side events and parallel technical sessions.

On Wednesday 24th October 4 plenary sessions were held at KICC. The theme for this day was; ‘towards agenda 2063’. The topics for discussion on this day were;

  • Catalyzing university role in influencing policy and setting development agenda
  • Converging the power of investment in Higher Education to transform Africa Abardares
  • Harnessing regional and global partnerships for higher education innovation in Africa
  • Unraveling University, Community and Private Sector Engagement forgricultural transformation in Africa

The highlights that emerged from these plenary sessions include; African governments need to move towards convergence of African policy investment in agriculture, food and nutrition is important in building a healthy working nation, there’s need to transform the way graduates are trained to have relevant skills for industry, need for investors i.e. governments and others in partnerships that link agriculture to industrialization and rural transformation and development of appropriate partnerships tools  that are integral in Africa’s religious and cultural diversity.
