Deputy Vice Chancellor (SA) congratulated students for having secured place in The   University of Nairobi.  Speaking during his address to the students at Taifa Hall, Main Campus on October 25, 2018, Prof. Mbeche stressed on the need of discipline and hard work which he said leads to success.  He informed the students that The University  puts them at the centre of everything it does; their experience  and success is therefore, important to each and every member of the University community.

Prof Mbeche reminded the Medical Students that their coming to the university marks a new chapter in their life. It is a time of transition and time of change. He cautioned them to take responsibility for their future and all that they do. “You have the opportunity to determine the direction, and the design of your life. This can seem daunting, but the great thing is that you are pursuing something that you have chosen to do, not something that was chosen for you by others. And while you are here at the university you will have the opportunity to learn new things, acquire new knowledge, develop new skills, and enhance your personal attributes in profound ways that will equip for life after University” said prof. Mbeche.

He informed the new comers that Student Affairs division provides co-curricular programs of educational development for the them, which includes activities and services to meet the cultural, social, spiritual and recreational needs and interests of students. These are all designed to enhance and support their academic experience outside classroom setting.


Prof. Mbeche notified the incoming students that The division comprises of six (6) departments namely: Dean of Students, Student Welfare Authority (SWA), Sports and Games, the University Health Services (UHS), Special Students Advisor and the University Security and Safety Services. He told them that the departments provide services such as accommodation, catering, sports and recreation, registration of student associations, students governance elections, counseling and career services, special services for students with disabilities and social needs, chaplaincy, students’ disciplinary matters, students’ security, students health, mentorship and leadership training.
