The Division of Student Affairs is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.  The following are the main roles of Student Affairs Division:-

i) Plan, organize and manage the provision of academic and social counseling, career, work study programmes , sports, (both within and outside the University), accommodation, catering, , community service, linkages with industry, recreation, health, security, oversight of students elections, orientation and any other student welfare services.

ii) Develop and implement programmes (e.g. leadership training) that support students educational experience and wholesome life.

iii) Advise student organizations and mentor students in their development of leadership, moral reasoning, social intelligence and other skills required in their lives.

iv)  Develop mechanisms to anticipate and promptly, efficiently and effectively respond to student needs.


  • Accommodation and Catering Services - The accommodation and catering services is handled in the University by Students Welfare Authority (SWA) that is headed by the Director.


  • Health Care - The University Health Services has a total of 14 clinics spread in all campuses including Kibwezi, Mombasa and Kisumu  and a mobile clinic at Main Campus.

The University Health Services is serviced by 28 doctors, 19 pharmacy staff, 22 clinical officers, 27 nurses, 12 Laboratory Technologist, 4 counselors and  33 support staff.

We have a 24 hours ambulance service consisting of 5 ambulances which serves all the campuses of the university.


  • Sports and Games- The University has a Department of Sports and Games headed by a Director, supported by 7 game tutors, 5 life guards, 2 sport coaches and 12 support staff.

The University offers a variety of Sports and Games and recreational services such as football, rugby, swimming, volleyball, athletics, tennis as well as a variety of indoor games.

More recently we have started a golf club for students and the golf course can be accessed at Upper Kabete Campus.

  • Other Support Services- Other support services are provided in the University by the Office of Dean of students.

These include: Chaplaincy, Guidance and Counseling, Placement and service to physically challenged students. We have established three chaplaincies which include: Muslim, protestant and catholic which are spread throughout all university campuses. These are headed by three chaplains.

Every campus has an Assistant Dean of Students who takes charge of counseling services.

We have a Placement officer who takes care of students’ placements, internship and general liaison between the University and industry.

We have 240 registered student associations many of which are social, cultural and professional.
